Y2K:
There are several firmware revisions of the RFC-1/B (also referred to as the software version in the documentation).
Versions 1.xx, 2.xx, 3.xx: These versions do not have a calendar so the Y2K issues do not apply.
Versions 4.xx, 5.00-5.08: These versions have a clock and calendar and will continue to work as expected (including user settings) into and through Y2K without user intervention. While the RFC-1/B uses only two digits to represent the year, it does not store or sort any data based on year so this is not an issue. Also, the RFC-1/B does not contain any programming or user settings that are based on year. Only the month and day are used to trigger automatic activities. The calendar does recognize Y2K as a leap year.
Interestingly, these versions of the RFC-1/B actually roll over from the year represented as "99" to the next year represented by "100" (read by the speech processor as "ten-zero". This strange behavior was actually a work around the sorting issue that uses no extra memory however, sorting by date never became an issue. You may test this behavior by setting the year to "100" by reprogramming the year with "*0". The "*" will write as a "10". Ten-zero is "100", get it?
This behavior in does not restrict the ability of the RFC-1/B to function properly in any way. You may choose to reprogram the date to the year "00" to represent 2000. The RFC-1/B will work normally either way.
If you find the ten-zero behavior unacceptable, a firmware release (version 5.09) is available that will rollover from the year 99 to the year 00. The RFC-1/B cannot speak the word "thousand" so there is no plan to make any further changes to the calendar year since it has no effect on system behavior.
Version 5.09: This version eliminates the ten-zero behavior discussed above. This firmware is available in the form of the SU-5 for users upgrading from version 4.xx or SU-5A for users upgrading from version 5.xx. The price is $200.00 plus shipping and tax..
