Bob Bundgaard, General Manager of KLKS, standing next to his transmitter, which has two Collins 830 FM power amplifiers (PA's). Each PA is capable of generating 10,000 watts of RF energy. A combiner allows either or both power amplifiers to feed the antenna. The normal total power is 17,000 watts. In the event of a PA failure, the other PA continues without service interruption. |

Here is your intrepid engineer, Mark Persons, with the new Broadcast Electronics 25 KW transmitter in 2005. One of the original Collins 10 KW power amplifiers was retained as a backup. An RF switch selects which transmitter goes to the antenna and which goes into the dummy load for testing. |

The KLKS site is equipped with a 40 KW backup generator, which will supply necessary AC power to keep the entire station running almost indefinitely in the event of power failure. Shown is Al Hauser of Ziegler when the generator plant was commissioned in February of 1998. In addition, KLKS has purchased four Best uninterruptible power supplies from us to keep the computer systems going during the time the power is out before the generator plant starts up and comes online.
