Beta Testing Software
The Challenge Continues

Our first office computer was purchased in 1984.  It was a Tandy/Radio Shack with an Intel 8088 4.7 MHz processor,  64K of RAM, a 10 MB hard drive, DOS 3.3, and a daisy wheel printer.  It was a marvel in it's day and was a great learning tool.

Things have gotten more interesting in recent years.  We went from using computers to building computers, selling computer systems, and testing new software.

In November, 1999 we became a beta test site for Microsoft ME (Millennium Edition).  It became the replacement for Windows 98 Second Edition.  Three beta editions were tested.  Each one was better than the last.
One of our computers is named "Test."  It is used to evaluate new software before it is put on any of the office machines.  We have run IBM OS/2 and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Workstation on this one.  In addition, we have been trying Linux Red Hat and Linux Caldera.  January 3, 2000, we have a full copy of Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 in house.  This application is for creating new Windows software applications.  We are starting to learn Visual Basic.  Stay tuned!!
February 17, 2000, we started using Windows 2000 on Paula's computer.  Windows 2000 is the replacement for NT 4.0.  We beta tested Windows 2000 in 1999 and found it to be a very stable and user friendly interface with good plug and play capability.
November 2000, we began beta testing Whistler which is Microsoft's codename for what is now known as Windows XP.
November 2001, we completed testing on Microsoft Windows XP.  It looks like an excellent and very stable replacement for Windows 98, ME, and 2000.  Shown here is a setup using a flat screen monitor, wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, and 50 feet of keyboard, mouse, sound, and monitor extension cable.
