Engineer's Log of Mark W. Persons |
|
|
Monday, July 11, 2011: Your intrepid radio broadcast engineer Mark Persons is pointing to a newly installed Broadcast Electronics AM-1A Transmitter at KEYL Radio in Long Prairie, Minnesota. This is the third transmitter that the station has employed since going on the air in the late 1960's. The backup is a Gates BC-1H. This new solid-sate BE transmitter officially went on the air on June 30th. It noticeable improved the air sound and is much more energy efficient. The top item in the rack is an M. W. Persons AM RF-2 RF Switch that connects the main or auxiliary transmitter to the antenna or dummy load. Radio Doctor Mark was there to "deliver" the new transmitter and declared, "It's a boy!" |

Grounding on the outgoing coaxial cable to the tower is to a copper strap which links the copper strap to the tower and the mains electrical panel in the transmitter building. |

There is a lightning loop in the coaxial cable to help keep lightning out of the new solid state transmitter. This is easy to do and is good insurance against problems. The website for KEYL/KXDL Radio is http://www.kxdlhotrodradio.com The phone number 320-732-2164 |
| Quote of the day: All in a day's work. Mark |

The stories go on and on. Stop in
again sometime. I'll leave the soldering iron on for you.
