Technical Tips from Mark W. Persons
Nautel J1000 Transmitter

This is a Nautel J1000, a 1000 watt AM transmitter in daily service.  It looks good and is making full power.  So, what's the problem?
If you remove the front panel cover and look behind, you see a lot of accumulated dirt on the air filters.  Ouch!...we need to be more diligent in taking a pro-active stand on keeping the filters clean for best reliability.

This transmitter is not alone in needing regular maintenance.  All transmitter air filters need to be checked and cleaned on a regular basis.  FM exciters are no exception.  Viewing and cleaning is a monthly job in many locations.  The goal is to prevent equipment heat failure due to plugged air filters.

Story from September 22, 2011.

The stories go on and on.  Stop in again sometime.  I'll leave the soldering iron on for you.
