Technical Tips from Mark W. Persons
For Collins/Rockwell/Continental 2.5 KW FM Transmitters

This is a Collins-Rockwell 831D-2/Continental 814R-1 2.5 KW FM Transmitter from the mid 1970's with its back door leaning up against the left side.
As viewed from the rear, it is common to find the plastic chimney has failed above the 5CX1500A or B power amplifier tube cavity.  This chimney is needed to vent hot air out of the transmitter cabinet.  A suitable solution is to cut galvanized sheet metal about 3-1/2" high to create a new chimney.
Here is the completed solution with a hose clamp to hold it in place.  Not bad for 30 minutes of work.

The stories go on and on.  Stop in again sometime.  I'll leave the soldering iron on for you.
